Ibizan hound: A Champion Breed for most dog lovers
Ibizan hound, also known as Podenco Ibicenco, is commonly found in the island of Ibiza. It is believed that traders of Egypt and Spain brought the dog to western countries. Ibizan Hound has been depicted in ancient art forms. The dog has been represented on many sculptures and hieroglyphs from about 5000 years ago.
Physical appearance
The Ibizan hound is a very athletic and agile dog. It is recognized for its long neck, head having a shape of wedge and amber colored eyes. The triangular ears of this dog stand up when the mind is in an alert state. The dog is famous for its convex shaped and rose-colored nose, which is often called ‘Roman Nose’. Although this dog is muscular and athletic when compared to other hounds, it is far more slender and well balanced compared to others. Its tail is slender and remains low when the dog is in a relaxed state, but tends to get higher when on an alert state.
Breed Types
Ibizan hounds are generally of three types: smooth haired, wirehaired and longhaired. Smooth haired is the most common type whereas the longhaired is the rarest amongst the remaining two varieties.
Features of this dog
Ibizan hound is a friendly breed of dog. They are quite, playful and polite. Henceforth if you always wanted someone to play with your kid, then hound might be the perfect answer. They tend to watch a person well. Only on finding the person harmless, they relax. Small animals like cats and rabbits should not be allowed to move closely to the hound, as they may fall prey to it. Proper training is essential, as it might do a world of good to its character.
Temperament
Ibizan hound has loads of energy, so naturally runs very fast. This hound is believed to have an independent nature, so they should be kept in a fenced area. If they run away, they might not come back until they feel like. Two to three longs walks per day would be ideal to keep this dog in a proper shape. Proper care would make your lovely hound well behaved, attentive and sharp. The pet should be well protected from cold, as it is sensitive to cold but stays fine in warm climate.
Grooming
Grooming is generally simple for the most common type, which can be done simply by running a rubber gloves over it. The other varieties do need a bit more attention, as occasional brushing helps keep hair smooth and silky. Regular cleaning ear passage and nails help the breed to be in a perfect state.

Ibizan hound is an excellent dog, which is intelligent, can learn very quickly. Simple training can make this dog learn loads of skill.
